Day 1 - Bowling to Dalmuir (approx. 6 km walk)

I started the canal journey at Bowling on the West coast of Scotland. It was a bleak and windy day though the sun did come out just after I finished walking !!

Entry to the canal at Bowling - "Haste ye Back" sign as people leave - am not sure what it says on the reverse side for arrivals! :

Funding including EU funding for the excellent upgrade of the bridge link etc and cycle path on the route:

This customs house is being converted for holiday letting accommodation:

Cycle repair at Bowling - coffee avialable too!

Cycle routes from Loch Lomond etc converge here and continue onwards:

The Wee Spark among a number of boats and houseboats based here:

Lock 38:

The beginning of the Antonine Wall is marked over this bridge:

A copy of the original Distance Slab that was found here at beginning of the Antonine Wall:

And here is a lovely blog post with many wildlife images from the Clyde basin on this and the other side - stunning photos - shame about the goose being shot as that also makes me very reluctant then to try what looks like a great walk on the other side of the Clyde:

Under the Erskine Bridge:

Looking back at the Erskine Bridge and with the location of the old Erskine Ferry - now no longer needed due to the bridge:

The Dalmuir Drop Lock - this looks like it would be interesting to see in action!

Here is a video of yachts going through it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37A15-tj788
